Curriculum

Our days at the schoolhouse are packed with learning through play in a carefully prepared environment allowing children to exercise independence, inquiry, and choice.

We prioritize the individual ages, stages, and personal interest of children when planning daily activities. Our curriculum, Experience Early Learning, is evidence-based and aligned with Maryland's Early Education Standards.

Children are provided with ample opportunities to develop creatively. Artwork adorns the walls of the schoolhouse and on any given day you will hear a child exploring sound through their voice and percussion instruments. Basic American Sign Language is included in our learning experiences.

The children at the schoolhouse look forward to our field trips, especially during the summer. To learn more about a few of our field trips visit the tuition page.

During the fall and spring we conduct informal assessments to help guide our learning experiences. Without interrupting our playful environment, we observe each child's developmental milestones. Parents receive progress reports articulating the developmental milestones reached and ways to support further development at home. For children demonstrating developmental delays, we provide parents with a list of specialists available for early intervention services.

Above & Beyond Schoolhouse is enrolled in Maryland EXCEL, a Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (TQRIS) that addresses the needs of both families and educators.
